I looked at similar trailers to our proposed idea for research. One of the film trailers I looked at was 'AdULTHOOD'. This film fits under the category of urban youth drama and addresses similar themes we aim to look at, such as sex, drug abuse and violence. The 'AdULTHOOD' film trailer gave us useful ideas of things to include in our trailer, such as party scenes, which we feel will help portray youth culture.
Another film trailer we looked at was 'Fish Tank', the storyline of this film is similar to that of our proposed idea, as it is a bildugsroman (coming of age) story and depicts a pivotal point in a young girls life, which is what we a hoping to portray in our film trailer. this is similar to AdULTHOOD as it also addresses themes such as drug abuse, sex and violence. However this film differs to AdULTHOOD, because as it follows the story of a one female character, whereas Adulthood looks at many different characters lives which interlink, and the main character is a male. We want the man focus of our trailer to be on one female character as there are currently not many urban youth drama films that do this.
I like the 'This Is England' film trailer as it uses a variety of different shots, and also because they use film footage which is not from the actual film, but is useful in portraying to a modern audience, what it was like in the time the film was set. This could be an interesting idea to try to recreate in our film trailer, but may not be applicable as our film is set in the present day, and so an audience watching would be able to relate to what is going on, and also we want all the footage included in our trailer to be our own.
From looking at these film trailers with similar genres to our proposed film, it is clear to see the codes and conventions which are used.
