Audience Research

From the research I did on the UK exit poll, it is clear that films in the urban youth drama genre such as ‘Adulthood’, ‘This is England’ and ‘Fish Tank’, are currently very popular amongst 16-24 year olds. This age range is also our proposed target audience age range.

To further our research, we asked people aged 16-24 what they thought about urban youth dramas:

Person 1

"I think urban youth dramas are really good because they show another side of life, often Hollywood films are all glitz and glamour but for most people that’s not what life is really like. I’m not saying my life is like those portrayed in these types of films but it can sometimes be similar."

Person 2

"Youth drama can be realistic but can also be exaggerated, as it often stereotypes teenagers quite negatively. However, I quite enjoy watching them as I can also relate to the storylines, which I find entertaining."

Person 3

"I think British urban genre is a good genre of film as it gives other people an insight into the lifestyles of some youths, however, it does portray people in a bad light."
